As a manager, he previously led the Spanish motorboat manufacturer Rodman. In autumn 2009, he took over the management of Bavaria for a transitional year and was mainly involved with sailing yachts. Andrés Cardenas now combines the two.
The Nuva MS6 designed by him, which is celebrating its trade fair premiere this weekend in Palma de Mallorca, is set to become a state-of-the-art motorised sailboat. Three prototypes are already afloat; series production is currently being prepared, Cardenas told YACHT online.
In fact, the boat looks very interesting, from the concept to the design details. It could close the gap in the market that MacGregor has been filling for years - and in which other providers have also tried their hand from time to time, including designer Marc-Oliver von Ahlen with the VI:TA.
Technically, the Nuva has high-quality details - from the fully retractable lifting keel, whose bomb disappears into a recess in the hull, to the carbon fibre mast without a backstay, which is designed to be easy to set and lay.
Trailerability and ease of operation were key elements of the development, says Cardenas. With a hull length of 5.99 metres, a width of 2.47 metres and an unladen weight of 1.35 tonnes, the Nuva MS6 is still easy to trailer. The CE certification for category C predestines it for coastal cruising and inland waters. Quick changes of sailing area are possible either by trailer or under engine.
It is powered by a four-cylinder Yamaha outboard engine, which produces 70 hp and accelerates the small cruiser to a cruising speed of 14 knots. The sail area is 31.2 square metres. There is room for two people below deck. The highlight is a cockpit that can be widened by almost a metre if required; the MS6 Plus thus offers a huge aft berth in port or at anchor.
